Open Access Policy
1. Open Access Statement
The International Journal of Islamic Education, Research and Multiculturalism (IJIERM) is committed to promoting the free and equitable dissemination of scholarly knowledge through an immediate open access publishing model.
All articles published in IJIERM are made freely accessible online immediately upon publication, without subscription requirements, reader access charges, or embargo periods.
The journal believes that unrestricted access to scholarly literature facilitates the dissemination of research findings, strengthens international academic collaboration, supports educational development, and promotes the exchange of knowledge among researchers, educators, policymakers, practitioners, and the wider public.
IJIERM supports the principles of open access expressed in the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) and is committed to responsible scholarly publishing practices consistent with internationally recognized principles of transparency, research integrity, and publication ethics.
2. Immediate and Free Access
IJIERM provides immediate and free online access to the full texts of its published articles.
Readers may access and download published articles without payment, subscription, or mandatory registration.
Subject to the applicable Creative Commons license and relevant laws, readers may:
-
Read and download published articles.
-
Copy and store articles for lawful purposes.
-
Print and share copies for noncommercial purposes.
-
Distribute articles through academic and educational networks.
-
Cite, discuss, and critically evaluate published research.
-
Link to the journal's official article pages and Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs).
-
Use articles for teaching, learning, academic research, and other lawful noncommercial activities.
-
Conduct lawful text and data mining where permitted by the applicable license and other relevant rights.
The availability of articles without charge does not eliminate copyright protection or remove the conditions established by the applicable publication license.
3. Copyright Ownership and Publishing Rights
IJIERM recognizes and respects the intellectual property rights of authors.
Authors retain copyright in their published articles.
By publishing in IJIERM, authors grant the journal the right of first publication and authorize the journal to publish, distribute, and make the accepted work available under the applicable Creative Commons license.
Authors retain the right to use, share, and distribute their published work in accordance with the license and the journal's publication agreement.
Authors may also enter into separate, nonexclusive arrangements for the distribution of their published articles, provided that such arrangements comply with the applicable license and acknowledge the original publication in IJIERM.
The journal does not require the transfer of copyright ownership from authors as a condition of publication.
The copyright notice, authorship information, publication details, and applicable license must be clearly identified in the published article and its associated journal metadata.
4. Creative Commons License
The standard publication license adopted by IJIERM is the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
Under this license, users are permitted to copy, redistribute, remix, transform, and build upon the licensed material, subject to the following conditions.
A. Attribution (BY)
Users must provide appropriate credit to the original authors, acknowledge the source of publication, provide a link to the applicable license, and indicate whether changes have been made.
Attribution must not imply that the authors, publisher, or journal endorse the user or the manner in which the material is reused.
B. NonCommercial (NC)
Licensed material may not be used for purposes primarily intended for commercial advantage or monetary compensation unless additional permission is obtained from the relevant copyright holder.
C. ShareAlike (SA)
If users remix, transform, or build upon the licensed material and share the resulting adaptation, the adapted material must be distributed under the same license or a Creative Commons-compatible license where permitted.
D. No Additional Restrictions
Users must not impose legal terms or technological measures that prevent others from exercising the rights granted under the applicable Creative Commons license.
The journal recognizes that the applicable license permits noncommercial adaptation and redistribution when its conditions are satisfied.
Materials identified as excluded from an article's Creative Commons license, including certain third-party images, figures, datasets, or copyrighted content, may require separate permission from the relevant rights holders.
The applicable license statement accompanying each published article governs the permissions and restrictions relating to that article. Previously published articles may carry different licenses, which must be respected.
5. Author Self-Archiving and Repository Deposit
IJIERM supports the responsible dissemination and preservation of scholarly research through institutional repositories, subject repositories, personal academic websites, and other lawful scholarly communication platforms.
Authors may deposit and share the published version of their articles in accordance with the applicable article license, without an embargo imposed by the journal.
When depositing or sharing published articles, authors should:
-
Retain the names of the original authors and complete bibliographic information.
-
Identify IJIERM as the journal of first publication.
-
Include the article's DOI or a permanent link to its official journal webpage.
-
Retain the copyright and Creative Commons license notices.
-
Clearly indicate whether any modifications have been made.
-
Ensure that redistribution complies with the applicable license and the rights associated with third-party content.
The journal encourages authors to link deposited copies to the official Version of Record to facilitate accurate citation and access to any subsequent correction, expression of concern, or retraction notice.
Sharing and repository deposit must not misrepresent the published research or obscure the publication history of the article.
6. Reader Access and Publication Charges
IJIERM distinguishes between free access for readers and any charges that may apply to authors during the publication process.
Access to published articles is free of subscription and individual article access charges.
Any applicable submission fees, article processing charges (APCs), publication fees, or optional services must be stated transparently in the journal's official Author Fees or Publication Fees Policy.
Where such charges apply, the journal must clearly explain their amount, purpose, payment conditions, waiver arrangements where available, and applicable procedures.
Any changes to publication charges must be communicated transparently through the journal's official website.
Payment of a publication fee, where applicable, does not guarantee manuscript acceptance or influence the outcome of editorial evaluation.
Editorial decisions are based on scholarly merit, originality, methodological rigor, relevance to the journal's Focus and Scope, independent peer review, and compliance with publication ethics.
7. Long-Term Digital Preservation and Accessibility
IJIERM recognizes that open access publishing requires not only immediate availability but also the responsible preservation and continued accessibility of scholarly content.
The journal supports digital preservation through its journal management infrastructure and the archiving arrangements described in its official archiving and preservation policies.
The journal's preservation policy should clearly identify the digital preservation services or systems used and distinguish active preservation arrangements from indexing, discovery, and metadata-registration services.
Bibliographic indexing, DOI registration, and search engine discoverability improve access to scholarly content but do not independently constitute guaranteed long-term digital preservation.
IJIERM seeks to maintain stable access to published articles, bibliographic metadata, supplementary materials where applicable, and relevant publication notices.
In the event of technical difficulties, platform changes, or interruptions to the journal's website, the editorial office will endeavor to restore access in accordance with its available preservation infrastructure and operational procedures.
8. Open Access and Publication Ethics
IJIERM is committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and accountability of its open access publishing practices.
The journal's editorial and publication procedures are informed by the principles and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.
The journal recognizes that open access availability must be accompanied by responsible editorial governance and safeguards against research and publication misconduct.
Accordingly:
-
Manuscripts are evaluated according to their academic quality, originality, methodological rigor, and scholarly relevance.
-
Editorial decisions must remain independent from commercial or financial considerations.
-
Authors are responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their published research.
-
Plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, citation manipulation, duplicate publication, and other forms of research misconduct are prohibited.
-
Authorship, conflicts of interest, research ethics, copyright, and data-related concerns must be addressed through the journal's applicable editorial policies.
-
Concerns regarding published research must be examined fairly and confidentially, as appropriate.
-
Necessary corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions must be handled transparently in accordance with the journal's post-publication policies and applicable ethical guidance.
Open access dissemination does not exempt manuscripts from peer review, research ethics requirements, or scholarly quality standards.
9. Corrections, Retractions, and the Scholarly Record
IJIERM recognizes the importance of preserving the accuracy and integrity of the published scholarly record.
When a published article is found to contain errors or when credible concerns arise regarding its integrity, the journal may issue a correction, expression of concern, or retraction in accordance with its applicable publication ethics and post-publication policies.
Where appropriate, publication notices should be clearly identified, linked to the affected article, and made freely accessible.
The journal aims to preserve an accurate and transparent record of publication history rather than silently removing or altering published scholarly content.
The reuse and redistribution of published material must respect any relevant correction, expression of concern, or retraction notice.
10. Transparency, Accessibility, and Policy Review
IJIERM is committed to providing readers and authors with clear information about its open access practices, copyright ownership, licensing conditions, publication charges, and relevant editorial policies.
The journal periodically reviews its policies to maintain clarity, consistency, and alignment with its actual publishing practices and applicable scholarly publishing standards.
Changes to the open access policy should be communicated through the journal's official website and should not be presented as retroactively replacing licenses already applied to published articles.
Readers and authors seeking clarification about access, copyright, licensing, repository deposit, or publication policies may contact the IJIERM Editorial Office through the journal's official website.
IJIERM is committed to advancing open scholarly communication by providing immediate access to published research while safeguarding authors' rights, respecting intellectual property, promoting responsible reuse, and upholding the integrity of the scholarly record.
